Although we are never privy to all that goes on in negotiations, I can't help but be "insulted" by Joe's feelings of the same to the Yankees offer. If he indeed desired to coach the Yankees, I feel that the offer was very good considering a few points for discussion:

1.] Before joining the Yankees, Joe was a sub-500 manager with at least a couple of teams{Mets, Cardinals and I'm not sure which other{s}

2.] The Yankees, year in and year out, spend the money to attempt to put an all-star at every position.

3.] The nature of this game in New York is to win championships{see all the fan apparel referencig rings}. The Yankees have not done so for seven years. If he was a part of the championships than he must be accountable for the non-championship years.

3.] It's still millions of dollars to coach baseball...!

4.] I am a Mets fan ;}

Mets fan, coming late to this discussion, I see you have hit all the nails on the head.  Torre should be embarrassed, but I'm not holding my breath.
