Link anchor to new window - new-tab window?

God loves you .

Is there any way to force the link anchor to open a whole another window to leave the CE window equally available and integrally independent?

It would be a touch better to open a new tab in the existing Internet window. Is that even possible?

As well, if one such dolt (c'est moi? +-\) closes the window, he does not close the CE window with it.

Ok, Warren,

Here's the short and the long of it.

I asked this question some months back, and the answer was, basically, that CE decided to make links open in the same browser instead of launching a new browser.

Now, YOU can personally set links that you include for the rest of us to launch in a separate browser, but I'm not sure if you can force any of the already-written-by-others links to do so.

You will need to disable rich-text.

Then, when you code the html for the link, you will want to add

target="_blank"

inside the first "a" bracket.  As in

<a href="http://www.insertSite.com" target="_blank"> </a>

and you've forced the site "www.insertSite.com" to open in a separate browser (as you can see in my above "test" site link).  You cannot leave out the "http://" part of the address, or it will assume the site has something to do with Catholic Exchange's site.

RE: "link in new window/tab"

I am running Mozilla & when I right click on a tab in the CE menu, I get a new tab in Mozilla.  Same thing happens if I right-click on a Forum name - new window.  IE ought to have an option that allows one to open a new tab.  In old IE one could click on File & that would display a menu that included "new". Clicking on New would bring up a new window focused exactly on the same URL as the old window.  One could then use the new window to navigate anywhere using any links found on the original page.  In all cases one could close the new window/tab without affecting the original window.  What browsers are involved in your cases?

pouliot,

You're right...I'm using IE, and I COULD do that.  But it is "inconvenient" because often I click on a link before thinking of first opening a new browser to do so.

What would be nice is if clicking on a link automatically launched a new browser with the link content.  I don't know if there's an IE setting to force this.  I do know that the site developers can decide to make this so across the board.  And, as of yet, CE has decided not to do it this way.

RE: convenience

I use IE at the office & I have disciplined myself to always go to File menu & start up a new window before navigating to a link I've never visited before.  However, you are right about the inconvenince because of the extra clicks involved.  I think it doesn't take any more client resources because I don't think it actually launches another instance of IE.  Since that is my m.o. with IE, I don't recall if a right-click is always available from any already existing window.  I will check next week.

Irrelevant topic: One bummer about the gmail migration is that google is largely blocked by the security protocol at work. Consequently, I am unable to access CE mail from the office anymore. I had been using it to provide a backup & an "at-home" window into certain work-related e-mail for which I have requested the sender to include the CE address.

Interesting (regarding the google block).  I do not use the CE mail...simply because I have 3 accounts I follow already, and there was no need for a 4th...or for a change.

I hope things get ironed out with CE mail.

RE: "ironed out "

Don't think they will.  It's google's non-map & non-search services that are being blocked.  Not to worry.  I'll never drop Catholic Exchange e-mail willingly.

Thanks for the comments.  We will be readdressing some of these design issues in the next couple of months.

We will add in something like that when the forums get a new design.  Yes, I know they already got a new design.  Don't get me started....

RE: "Books and Media"

Good idea.  I know a few of us still read books.
